A Basic Chakra Practice

A Basic Chakra Practice

I thought I would share this video that is a great introduction to a basic chakra practice. This is a simple, ten minute practice that can be done just about anytime, before bed, etc. This is an excerpt put together from the animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and while simple, this has a lot of key concepts in it, explained in a very simple way that is easy enough to understand for beginners. Including, the simple question: "what is a chakra?" In our tradition do this practice often, and if one wishes to expand on this, one can do so by spending extra time on each individual chakra. Additionally, starting at the base chakra, and working one's way up, one can also add mantra elements by chanting a seed syllable along with it. This is a bit more advanced than what is presented here in this video, and is not necessary for a beginner, but will add a bit more depth to the practice if one wishes. Additionally, it's helpful to note that various emotional, mental, or physical issues that we have come up, tend to be associated with a particular chakra, or what is also called an energy meridian in our body. These meridians or chakras tend to be active more at certain times of day, and also throughout the month, they tend to be more active at certain phases of the lunar cycle. It's a good idea when meditating to keep a spiritual diary, and note the time of day, as well as the date and phases of the moon that things come up, that way that one can start to keep track of them, and take notice of any patterns. In this way one can be more prepared when things come up, and be better able to deal with them.
